The problem
Generic stock systems can't describe a roll
Off-the-shelf inventory counts things. Flooring isn't a count — it's a length, a width, a batch, and whatever's left after the last cut.
A roll is a measurement
Not "1 carpet". A width in millimetres, a remaining length in metres, and the square metres those give you — recalculated after every cut.
Dye lots have to match
Two rolls of the same product from different batches are visibly different laid side by side. If your system can't tell them apart, someone eventually lays both.
Offcuts are still stock
What's left after cutting has value. Record the cut, keep the remainder as findable stock, and stop re-ordering material that's already in the racking.
